i wan tto start a website but i hate useing freewebs or geocitys. where can i find a site host that suprts Nvu or HTML codeing and lets me use my own URL?

  1. a domain(or url) must be registered to a person. this includes your address and personal info. they do this because of security reasons and identification reasons. domains cost less than $10 per year, just check a site like godaddy.com, then after owning a domain, free hosting shouldnt be that hard to come by.
  2. I wouldn't use the host even if they did offer the option. There are numerous reasons to not use a free host. Top among them is that you have no control or say about anything. If the server goes down for a week, page loads extremely slow due to way too many sites hosted on the server or not enough bandwidth, your pages get deleted, site gets taken down or stopped due to bandwidth overages or file size overages or visitor complaints, low rankings on search engines because of what other sites are hosted on the same server.... Basically you get what you pay for. + even if you are able to find a free web hosting service that allows you a personalized url which would mean your own domain name@dotcom... you don't own it --> the host would. & what if your site becomes extremely popular or profitable? 3 guesses on who gets the boot & who reaps the benefits. Do your self a favor & at the very least ante up the $10 - $20 to purchase a domain name for a year. & then go with a cheap host like 1and1 or whatever. At least you won't be at the mercy of of the free host. If you are determined to go the free route at least your not entering in blindly. Try checking out freeservers.com.   6. When you say "my own URL", I assume you are referring to DOMAIN name, eg www.YourURL.com If this is the case you will need to register for it. About $9 per year.   7. No, because that would be illegal. Domains cost a lot. They are not just a one time payment thing. You have to pay for them every single month and you have to pay for hosting. The only way you can get free LEGAL hosting is if you have a subdomain with that company.   8. if you mean your own url is your own paid domain name then recommend the one that i'm using now. check my profile for my site. i don't buy domain yet so i use their free sub domain. but i suggest you get a domain name if you want to start a biz. but while learning process of making website and testing using free sub domain could be a good idea. that host allows 1 FTP user so you can upload your file without using the files manager. there forum is also very helpful. hope it helps.
